Benedict XVI, Homily Epiphany extract

January 2, 2011
feast of the Epiphany

Isaiah 60, 1-6,
Psalm 72 (71),
St. Paul to the Ephesians 3, 3,2-3 .5-6

Epiphany, the "event " of our Lord Jesus Christ, is a multifaceted mystery. The Latin tradition identifies it with the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus in Bethlehem, and the interpreter therefore especially short a revelation of the Messiah of Israel to Gentiles. The Eastern tradition in contrast emphasizes the moment of Jesus' baptism in the Jordan River, where it manifested itself as the only Son of the Father in heaven, consecrated by the Holy Spirit. But John's Gospel invites us to consider as "epiphany" is also the wedding at Cana, where Jesus changes water into wine, "manifested his glory and his disciples believed in him" (Jn 2, 11) . And what should we say, dear brethren, especially us priests of the New Covenant, which are daily witnesses and ministers of the "epiphany" of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist? The Church celebrates the mysteries of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, humble, in which he reveals and conceals at the same time its glory. "Adoro Te Devote, Latens Deitas - adoring, and pray with St. Thomas Aquinas.

... The Church Fathers were also seen in this unusual episode told by St. Matthew a kind of "revolution" cosmological caused by the coming of the Son of God in the world. For example, Chrysostom wrote: "When the star reached over the child, she stopped and this could only be done by a power that the stars do not: it ie, first hide and then appear again, and finally stop (Homily on the Gospel of Matthew, 7, 3). St. Gregory Nazianzen says the birth of Christ imparted to the stars of new orbits (cf. Dogmatic Poems, v, 53-64: PG 37, 428-429). What to hear of course the symbolic meaning and theological.

... In the earthly Jesus is the crown of creation and history, but in the risen Christ, it goes beyond: the passage through death to eternal life anticipates the point of "recapitulation" of all things in Christ (cf. Eph 1, 10). Everything, in fact - wrote the apostle - "has been created through him and for him (Col 1, 16). And it is precisely with the resurrection from the dead, he got "in every way" (Col 1, 18). Jesus himself said, appearing to the disciples after the resurrection: "All power given unto me in heaven and on earth" (Mt 28, 18). This awareness supports the path of the Church, the Body of Christ along the paths of history. The universal power of Christ is carried in a special way on the Church. God "put all things under his feet - we read in the Letter to the Ephesians - and has been on top of everything, head for the Church, which is his body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all » (Eph 1: 22-23). Epiphany is the manifestation of the Lord, and therefore it is the manifestation of the Church, because we can not separate the body from head. The first reading today, alleging that the so-called Third Isaiah, gives us the right perspective to understand the reality of the Church as a mystery of light reflected: Stand Up! - The prophet says, addressing Jerusalem - shine, for your light, / and rises upon you the glory of the Lord " (Is 60, 1). The Church is an enlightened humanity, "baptized" in the glory of God, that is to say, his love, his beauty, his power. The Church knows that his humanity, with its limitations and weaknesses, also point out the work of the Holy Spirit. It can boast of nothing else in his Lord: it is not that it comes light, the glory is his. But this is precisely the joy that no one can deprive him: be " sign and instrument" of the One who is "Lumen Gentium," Peoples light (cf. Conc. Vat. II , Const. dogma. Lumen Gentium, n. 1).

Shoulder Pain Clunking Neck Pain

The awakeners, Volume 1: Salicande - Pauline Alphen

Series: The awakeners
Volume 1 - Salicande
Author: Pauline Alphen
Pages : 519
Genre: Literature Youth Fantasy
Publisher: Hachette

Description:
In a secluded valley, growing up Claris and Jad. They are twins, understand each other without saying anything, and live in a world where talking about the past is forbidden. A Salicande Indeed, no one talks about the time before, nor their mother, who disappeared mysteriously.

What has happened? Is there a link with these mysterious gifts whose children seem to have inherited? With the Great Disaster and the collapse of civilization before the time?

Rate:
I would first like to thank the forum Livraddict and editions Hachette allowing me to discover this book I really enjoyed it.

Both warn you, by opening this book you will enter another world. A country that will seem unreal and part of a distant past, yet he is supposed to represent our world in 250 years. The Time Before
ended in 2189, after the Great Catastrophe. The people then jumped back into the past by banning any technology to stop the slaughter of man over nature. Indeed, they have reached the limits and have lost much (many species of animals and plants, conversion of forest to desert, disappearance of natural resources etc. ...).
the present tense, the past is taboo and therefore is not discussed. Those who knew him can only remember and younger have no idea what the time before, nor even why it is not mentioned.

Claris and Jad are twins and yet completely different. Their mother disappeared when he was only three years and this loss has had a singular effect on each. Claris think his mother died and refuses any allusion to it. Jad him, she dreams of every night and is convinced she redo surface sooner or later.
The Twins are connected by a psychic link that enables them to communicate without needing to speak, and they are complementary. They also have other gifts they know, like the reader.

The characters are very well described, they are well worked and it looks all know, although they are rather numerous. They all have a well-defined character and are interesting in their own way.

I appreciated having an omniscient point of view, I think it allows an understanding of history and it is easier to appreciate each character seeing the story through the eyes of each of them.

As for history, it is full of mystery, it reveals little things throughout the book, which helps keep the reader spellbound. And even once the book is closed, it knows only part of the story and many questions remain unanswered, it will then read more, I will hasten to do, especially for this purpose less surprising.

Only small negative point, I found a fairly long stay of Twins and Borges in the mountains. It does not much going on and I almost get tired of reading. But fortunately I continued and I do not regret it.

What Is The Harley Saying?

Father Charles Singer, he came to St. Ephrem

Friends, brothers everywhere, it came the one.

you know his name?
I tell you and in your hearts

sing his name like a flute in silence
foggy night.
doors, open up!
On the roads, make room.

Prepare home.
Install lights on your windows.
aware that the long wait is over.
Look up!
I tell you: He has come!

Do you know his name?
I'll tell you his name and burst
like stardust on the square in the world.
Today will be the bright shining day and night.
Because he was born a child who changes the world.

Do you know his name?
on his face in the smile of God.
He was born, he will remain with us
and joy of men becomes the joy of God.
He was born, it stays with us
and human suffering is the suffering of God.
He was born, it stays with us
and love of men is the love of God.
He was born, it stays with us and his words
carry life in them as a spring
inflated promises.

Do you know his name?
I'll tell you and I want it stays attached to your heart.
His name EMMANUEL,
He is God with us.

Community South, Volume 10: A certain death - Charlaine Harris

Series: The Fellowship of South
Volume: 10 - A certain death
Author: Charlaine Harris
Pages: 413
Genre: Bit-bed
Publisher: J'ai Lu

Description:
"Finally! Finally my relationship with Eric begins to look like something! After all these events, I, Sookie, I earned it. But alas, when everything seems to be going well, that's my entourage makes me create new problems: Sam Bill and even Eric! And the fury that surrounded the Great Revelation of hybrids is not really fallen ... "
Sookie Stackhouse
is still recovering from the revelation of his great-grandfather that she must face an unexpected visitor: the creator of Eric, a vampire straight from antiquity, with a strange boy to bloodthirsty habits. And on the other hand, between caring for her marriage and her family manage Fae, the young waitress from Bon Temps still much to do ...

My opinion: I really look forward
Sookie and Eric return to this tenth volume and when I finally found time to immerse myself in it, now he has disappointed me.

I found rather longish, with a lot of repeats, it does not happen much, except in the final pages.
The story is not very gripping and it is certainly not particularly easy to follow. Where, in previous volumes, Charlaine Harris was able to manage its various creatures and characters, without confusing his readers by giving them different plots and keeping relatively separate vampires and werewolves, she comes out here a scenario that All mixes (vampires, werewolves and FAST) in the same plot.

So, I found it a bit messy at times, and the rest of the time I'm almost bored me as though a big fan of The Twilight series with which I discovered bit-bed.

What fans should not worry: there are still some bright spots! The relationship
Sookie-Eric who is growing, although it is slightly softened in this volume and I would have appreciated a little more.
Translation revised and corrected is also a good point, I enjoyed finding some original names such as Fangtasia (which still sounds much better than Mitt Crunch), or Northman Alcide (which had been translated by Leonard in previous volumes). I also found
Jason changed, more accountable and less "ball", interesting developments, therefore, it takes more things in hand.

Despite this minor disappointment, hope to read a sequel better (Charlaine if you read me: p) because I remain faithful to the series which is one of those that I love most.

, 4th s, Hymn of faith

St. Ephrem The Syrian
of Nisibis (306/373)

Turn me into your teaching
Because I tried to dissuade me
And I saw that I impoverish,
For the soul is rich in
trade with you.
Glory to your meditation!
Always, when I meditated upon you
I received you treasure
And where I've looked
A source cast thee
And I drew as I could.
Glory to your source!
It is hidden, O my Lord! Your source
Who does not thirst for you, And
empty room, your treasure,
Who hates you:
Charity is the treasurer.
Of your heavenly treasure.
When I walk away from your company,
Your beauty excites my desire, And when I accompany
your Majesty,
me Your glory filled with fear:

What I walk away or I approach, I am the
defeated anyway.
[...[

I meditated, and talked of you ,
Not that I have understood;
Then I fell and I fell silent again,
Not that I lost you.
I lost myself in you,
and I was speechless:

Glory to you, To be hidden. "

Karaoke Pads Do They Work

The color of hate - Malorie Blackman Review

Title: The color of hate
Volume: 2
Author: Malorie Blackman
Pages : 390
Genre: Children's Literature
Publisher: Milan

Description:
"I realized that I knew nothing of how I had to take care of you, Callie. You were not a thing without name, without reality. You were not a romantic ideal or a simple way to punish my father. You were a real person. And you needed me to survive.
Callie Rose. My flesh and my blood. Half Callum, half me and one hundred percent you. Not a doll, not a symbol or an idea, but a real person with a Brand New Life, which opened to her.
And under my responsibility. "

Imagine a world. A world where everything is black or white. Where that is black is rich, powerful and dominant. Where that is white is poor, oppressed and despised.
Blacks and whites do not mix. Never. But Callie Rose was born. Children love to Sephy and Callum, his parents. Children of shame for the world. Everyone must choose sounds camp and color. But some, that color is a shade ... dangerous than hatred.

My opinion:
I had to wait 2 ½ months to read this sequel. And what disappointment. While the first book, Noughts And for me was a huge favorite, I am rather disappointed with it, not at all what I expected.

I found it quite long, many passages dragging on, long to start too. Especially with the first chapter we used the author (quite in the tone of the first book), I had imagined it would end a few years later, that little would have grown and that it would Jude hands on revenge for his mother, as he swears in this first chapter.

But not anything like that. Instead we serves long monologues Sephy who have also sometimes deeply annoyed. A hateful Jude, equal to himself then, but suddenly read half the book from his point of view I was not at all pleased. Moreover

at the points of view, I really liked the idea of alternating them in the first book, but it is almost lose it, it is entitled to no less than five points of view, I found it too much and sometimes unnecessary.

And then what about this? I am left speechless, I do not understand what it is doing there, why finish the book so, I really do not see.
You will therefore understand that I am really disappointed, I even wonder if it's worth it for me to read more ... I'll let a little time and maybe come back later, but I'm really cold ...

Bloated Stomach Gaviscon

Huntress of the Night, Volume 1: At the edge of the grave - Jeaniene Frost

Series : Hunter of the night
Volume 1 - At the edge of the grave
Author: Frost Jeaniene
Pages: 504
Genre: Bit-bed
Publisher: Milady

Description:
Mi-human half-vampire, Catherine Crawfield stalking the undead in an attempt to kill his father, the monster that damn life of his mother in the air. She is then captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, which imposes an association against nature: it will help the Cat in his quest and in return, this sexy predator of the night will make her a hunter with reflexes as sharp as its fangs. But before playing the scorers of demons, Cat itself is chased by a bench killers. Forced to choose sides, she'll quickly realize that being a blood-sucking has its advantages ...

My opinion: That some
Bones that time ... uh Huntress of the night hanging out in my PAL, and what better than a common reading to start?
Had I known I would as I would have read upon entering my library for that matter! You meet so

Cat, vampire hunter, herself half-vampire half-human. His mother having taken raped by a vampire just transformed. She (the mother) hates all vampires and then pushes her daughter to kill as possible. But one day
Cat falls on stronger than she: Bones! But it ended up catching a deal with her. Cat does not render him confidence and dreams of killing her at the first opportunity.

Cat is a character I enjoyed, it is strong, determined and absolutely does not allow himself to walk on foot. Even attached and thank you for Bones, it continues to threaten him and offered him a duel. She has a lot of cons trouble trusting since it has always had in mind than revenge.
What about Bones?! ahhhh Bones! (I'm in love, I have not said?) It is of course very sexy, but also protective, intelligent, etc etc ... So it helps to become a Cat-class hunter and promises in exchange for help in finding her father.

action is present in this volume, was entitled to several fights, and you never get bored. The plot is well done, there is suspense and we want to know more soon. There is also humor, Bones and Cat often send each other pikes, the dialogue becomes even better.

I can not wait to read the other volumes that are already my PAL elsewhere, and I invite you to read the reviews of other readers, who like me, attended the common reading:

The Vampire, Volume 1: The Promise - Christopher Pike

Series: The Vampire
Volume 1 - The Promise
Author : Christopher Pike
Pages: 189
Genre: Bit-bed
Publisher: J'ai Lu

Description: My name Alisa
Perne. I'm intelligent, cultured and rather has a great appetite live. I
beautiful blonde hair and electric blue eyes. In short, everything to please and be pleased.
There is only one small problem ... It gives me 18 years, but I have more than 5000. And most importantly, I am a vampire. The last of my kind.
And sometimes I feel terribly alone ... Especially when a mysterious enemy chasing me relentlessly, determined to destroy me.

My opinion:
I want to thank Livraddict editions and I Lu for this partnership.
I started my reading with good a priori since the reviews I had read about this book were quite positive.
But for my part I was rather disappointed.

We met Alisa, this last vampire on earth, we learn in the course of reading, how she became a vampire and why she is the only one still "alive" (no pun intended ) . I liked to know all these details and that the passages that tell us of this are well separated, which avoids being lost in history.

But I did not appreciate Alisa, it pissed me off throughout the book is a narcissistic character, many too confident and boastful. I really struggled to support his side "I am a bomb and I repeat it every three minutes, in case you did not yet understand."
I also found that things were going really fast and were too often too simple. This is surely due to the fact that the book is short but it's still bad.
For example, Ray accepted almost without flinching to meet a vampire and even worse it does not seem really shocked to learn that the latter has murdered his father, and obviously it does not prevent sleep with her (yes remember you, our heroine is irresistible ...).

In conclusion, it was a quick read but will not let me have a great memory, I think history would have deserved to be a little more developed and the main character would have been improved a bit more modest.
